Sustainable Swaps I made in 2024…plans for 2025
Last year, one of my goals was to find more ways I could reduce my waste and live a more sustainable lifestyle. For the planet, for us humans, for the animals, and the beautiful environment. But mostly because I think it is all our responsibility to take care of this one earth we have. If we’ve learned anything by watching all the crazy and tragic natural disasters, it’s that we need to make a change. And sometimes change can start with us, in our own homes, with our habits. I am not perfect and will never claim to be. But here are. few things I swapped out for a more sustainable option that has helped me reduce my waste, spend less on poor quality, and be more conscious about how I vote with my dollar!
Some swaps I made in 2024 :
Deoderant!! A biggy. I have been on the hunt for a good natural deodorant that actually WORKS, and I finally found WILD, which is a plastic-free reusable deodorant carton that is high quality, smells amazing, and has a mission for bettering the world.
Toothbrush!!! Also very important. I had my eye on SURI for about a year, and I finally pulled the trigger. I also finally got over sharing an electric toothbrush with my bf (don’t worry, we had our own heads). Suri is another plastic-free product that has compostable toothbrush heads and a program that allows you to send back used heads for professional composting.
Pappertowels!! We switched to Reel paper towels as well as cloth towels. We try to use cloth towels as much as possible, but sometimes you just need a good old paper towel. Reel is a sustainable solution to those problems!
Toilet Paper!! I know, so exciting. But it is when you find a brand that has the right mission. Who Gives A Crap is a 100% recycled TP company that ships plastic-free right to your door! I don’t think I can ever go back to lugging plastic-wrapped HUGE bundles of store-bought TP again.
Swaps I want to make in 2025:
Skin care. Two parts to this one. Firstly, I have had no skin care routine, and my face is truly paying for it. I also want to find companies that are making an effort to be more sustainable in their manufacturing and packaging. I also want to prioritize brands that are natural, vegan, and animal testing-free. I am interested in trying the Youth To the People Brand.
I want to find an affordable toothpaste option. I have tried Bite and I like but they are pretty pricey. I may get back to using them, but I am going to be looking for other brands that have a similar product.
One of the ongoing ways I am trying to shop/consume sustainably is staying off of Amazon. I haven’t been buying from Amazon for the last few years. I try to shop in person as much as I can and prioritize small businesses, local shops, and other smaller chains rather than the massive companies (as often as I can- I am human nd not perfect).
I would love to hear any other ideas you have for making sustianbale swaps in 2025!
